Man to Man eps 11-16 (end)

Wow! The second half of the show was just twist after twist after twist! I liked the ending and where each character ended up in the story. Lets see.

I ubderstood why Jang had to team up with Seungjae first to take down Cong Baek, second to be in a position to know Seungjaes next move and to somehow control it. And i know why he had to shot Seulwoo and its not to jeooardize the mission and also to save him. Im glad he stayed honorable till the end. I never once thought he could cross the line and be corrupt. And i love that he ended up with the very beautiful and understanding Sharon.

Cong Baek was just too old and still using old methods that he was easily taken down by Seulwoo.

The other agent was helpful to Seulwoos mission and in some parts very crucial to the success of the mission. I flet a little bad that he did nit get any plea vargain or light sentence for helping them get Baek but i guess he killed so many people and had to oay for his crimes. And we see that he did it all for his fmaily esp his sick daughter.

Surprising reveal was that Mieun was a ghist agent. It explains everything she has fone so far. Why she was so close to Jang. And hiw she was always one step ahead and could help Seungjae think of good ideas. At the start i thought she would end up with Ungwang. Then middle part i really didnt like her. But at the end i loved how she and Ungwang were able to finally have closure and break up. And while im surprised that she didnt leave Seungjae i am also glad since Seungjae is a good dad, he just had too much of his fathets blood and became cunning and ruthless.

Speaking of Seungjae i loved how to him everything had a price and he was willing to negotiate and give people what they deserved. Just too bad he got so corrupted and its mostly what his dad taught him. I saw his face when he realized he really loved Mieun and her too and they tore the divorce papers. And i think that he will probably change now that he knows he can trust Mieun and that he is loved.

The other big reveal was that the NIS Director was the traitor! In a way i kind of expected because his face looked too meek and suspicious. But it still doesnt explain why the first ghost agents were that powerful. That old lady that Baek met in the jimjilbbang brought up lots more questions. And it still didnt directly answer the dragon symbol. I just assumed its the group symbol for the principal ghost agents.

Dong hyun omg i was shocked when he get into an accident. I was really scared that he would die. And i am so haopy he fidnt. I felt a bit teary eyed when Jang gave him a medal he really deserved it because he worked so hard for it. And nice to see him have new people caring for him like Doha’s dad.

I love Ungwang. At the start he was being portrayed as arrogant playboy but he has a big heart and loyalty and is willing to help his family. I was wirried that he might be the love triangle between seulwoo and ruin the romance and i was relieved that the story didnt go there. I hope his movie will be a success and he can find a great girl to be with. Just now eunsoo please!

Doha eventually grew on me as with her relationship with Seulwoo. Seulwoo has been an agent for so long i didnt doubt for a minute that he will resign to be with Doha. Well he didnt even have to. Because Doha accepted him and waited for him. So he can go out and save the wirld and still come back with doha and Ungwang waiting for him.

I lived how Seulwoo is so smart and always comes up with great ideas. Hes also good at profiling people and anticioating the next mive. I definitely think the mission was a success primarily because of him and his plans. I would love to see a second season of him, ungwang and Doha running after a new villain.

Overall had a great time watching thr show. It had a lot of twists, some funny scenes, a few romance lots of bromance and crazy villains.

(variety show) Youn’s Kitchen

I chanced upon this show when i was waiting for the 3 Meals a day and im glad i did. I have watched thr producers other shows like Grandpa over flowers, 3 meals a day etc. I liked the concept for the 4 of them opening a restaurant in Bali and see them cooking, serving, thinking of new menu and also bonding during their free time. I havent watched yun yuhjungs movies or dramas but am familiar with the 3. I also liked the fact that they were unrecognizable by the tourists and restaurant diners so to them it looks like they are an ordinary family or team in the restaurant business.

Their menu were simple but judging from the peoplea reaction, delicious. All through out the 8 episodes i wish i could fly there and order so i can taste the bulgogi noodles and the pop dumplings. I was worried for Shingoo that he is old but im surprised that he is still so fit and was able to handle the work. I also loved the teamwork and camaraderie between them im not sure if they are all friends previously or acquaintances but they seem to be comfortable with each other. As much as i would love for yuni and seojin to get together i dont think they have a love chemistry but more on brother sister vibes.

What i wished they have done was also give a summary of how much they made during the 7 days they opened coz its not just managing the restaurant kitchen food and diners but also seeing if they were profitable.

I heard there is going to be a second season. I hope the episodes will be longer and that the team will have a daily or end of the show challenge. That way they have a target and will keep them on their toes.

Try to catch this wonderful show in case it is still showing in TvN!

Man to Man ep. 6-10

A lot happened in the next 4 episodes.

Do ha gets kidnapped because of the ring, Seul woo enlists the help of Un gwang to get her free. They were able to capture the other Agent who refused to talk. However, once he found out that Seungjae dropped him, he messaged Seulwoo using a special Ghost code and they were able to retrieve the body of missing Agent Robert Yoon.

Do ha’s dumb dad is still up to his con man ways and thought he could get some money and help from Congressman Baek – who in turn used him and framed him for the murder of Robert Yoon. By this time, Do ha has found out about the real identity of Seul woo but is still in love with him. After revealing his identity, Seul woo “disappeared” on Do ha who was furious! Un gwang is smarter and knows Seul woo is still in the same building, just in a secret room.

When Do ha found out about her dad, she had no choice but to seek the help of Prosecutor Lee and Seul woo to help free her dad. The only way to do it is to get the second wood carving and proceed with the Black Auction. I dont know how much influence Song san and Cong Baek has on the government and NIS, but they were unbelievably able to remove Jang from NIS, arrest Lee on absurd charges, leaving Seul woo alone to complete the mission. and who else to help but Do ha and Un gwang! i love their partnership! To be able to participate in the black auction, Seul woo borrowed USD5M from Ungwang, to his shock (that is a whole lot of money to give away!) Nevertheless Un gwang not only gave him the money, he and Doha also went to the Black auction to buy the wood carving. (Obviously with a lot of NIS agents, Seul woo can’t go there himself). Meanwhile, In exchange of giving the USB drive containing Yoon’s murder, the other Agent struck a deal with Seulwoo to help him get the wood carving, while Seulwoo helps him fake his own death.

Once they were able to get the wood carving. Seungjae and Cong Baek amped the pressure by claiming that the agent death was a terrorist attack and the NIS director should be responsible for it. I dont know what is the sudden change in attitude of Mi-eun (if it’s for herself or for her son), now she has sided with Seungjae and has been giving him helpful advise to meet their plan. Mi-eun convinced Seungjae to get Jang to his side (make him NIS Director) and his loyalty by giving Jang Cong Baek and the Baek Infantry. Seung jae spoke to Jang about it while Jang had to think about his next move. With him and Lee powerless, and the NIS Director unable to get the third wood carving in Myanmar (Apparently Seungjae was able to somehow get someone to move it to Russia) and planning to retire, it looks like Jang may have to take Seungjae’s offer to be able to eventually take him down.

For a man who is supposedly so powerful that he controls the government and the people, i find it hard to believe that he can’t even get the 3 wood carvings! and most of the time his men is running around chasing Seulwoo. i guess he is the type a bully who is all mean words and goons but doesnt have the strength to do his own job. And i dont know who i want to hurt more.. the smug face of Seungjae or the arrogant face of Cong Baek. I can’t wait for the episode when Seulwoo (with the help of Ungwang) and the team take them down!

As for Do ha and Seul woo’s relationship, I still can’t see much romance – and i feel like it’s forced. I dont know how Seul woo is feeling, if he is just repressing his growing feelings for her or he is still at this point working on his mission. I can see he does care for her – since they have gotten closer.

Another person I’m not sure of is Un gwang’s feelings for Do ha. Is it just brotherly concern or is he starting to like her? And how about Un gwang’s feelings for Mi-eun? i think it’s gone he just can’t move on because there was no closure. At this point, i dont want Un gwang to end up with Mi-eun at all! Ungwang is such a happy funny guy and Mi eun looks like a miserable bitch. (i have to say, Chae Jung an looks different than when she was younger..not sure if she got any work done on her face). I dont even feel any ounce of sadness whenever Seungjae treats her badly. She married him so she has to live with her consequences.

I also love the budding bromance between the men both at this point its more Ungwang than Seulwoo.

I really hope nothing bad happens to Prosecutor Lee and Jang – i was so scared when Baek visited Lee – i thought he might have spiked his coffee.

I think we are in the middle of the show – the next up is going to be even more thrilling, trying to find the last wood carving, and i’m betting we will see a lot of alliances shifting and lots of twists til we get to the end.

Laurel tree tailors eps 41-54 (end)

I loved the entire series! I wasn’t able to do another review anymore because I ended up watching (marathoning) the rest of the episodes in a couple of days. I liked where each character and couple ended by the end of the episode.

Dong jin and Yunshil

We found out that Gi Pyo has been lying to Yunshil for 10 years – saying that he donated his kidney to her father but the father died in the operating room. I didn’t like him for the entire duration of the series, even at the end, but I’m also happy that they were able to resolve this issue in a nice way. Yunshil finds out the truth, tells Gipyo she will never forgive him and to leave her alone, Donjin and Gipyo have a drinking session where Dongjin tells Gipyo that if he really loves her, he should do something that would make Yun shil happy. What he eventually did – which is to threaten Hyosang with the recorded tape and to give the CEO post to Dongjin is so-so, i wish he did a better gesture and i wish Yunshil found out about it so at least she wouldnt feel so much hatred to him (at least). I also liked how Gipyo’s mother apologized to Yunshil – i know she was just helping her son so I can understand why she did those things to Yunshil – and i’m glad that she didn’t let Gipyo det away with what he did and still took him back with her to Anseong to live a better life. with Gipyo out of the way, Dongjin goes back to Meesa and saves the company. It was an interesting idea to put Hyosang in the tailor shop – so that he can learn the basics of men’s suits and given a chance to become humble and to work hard. (I’ll write more about Hyosang in the next paragraph). On the other hand, it’s nice to see Yunshil going back to school and Dongjin strongly supporting his wife. The annoucnement of her pregnancy was also a nice surprise! i guessed early on that she was pregnant when she kept craving for steamed buns and had a huge appetite. (I wonder how the actress felt when she later on find out she became pregnant in real life with the actor!) These 2 couples are one of the nicest couples i’ve watched in kdramaland – sweet romance, fighting, supporting each other and taking care of each other.

Dongsook and Taepyung

At the start both of them were annoying – Taepyung looked like a loser most of the time while Dongsook was so foolish. By the middle of the show, they wre married and both have matured. I loved their little family with Dajeong and was happy to see Taepyung because successful again. The part about lying that he is still single and not married to Dongsook i guess is a big deal to korean fans, though, for me, i didn’t think it should matter since he is not an idol and he’s older so people would expect that he would have married by now and it wouldn’t be an issue. I didn’t expect her first love to come back and become the CEO of his agency, and I dont think it was a big issue again since Taepyung is so over her. I’m just surprised that the first love is still so girlish despite her age. another funny scene is when they finally got their family certificate and Taepyung found out that Dongsook is older than him. haha. can’t he see that she looks old?

taepyung.JPG

Samdo and Sunnyeo

The storyline for the second half of the series wasn’t as fun as the first half – mostly because they just kept fighting and misunderstanding each other. they have been married for so many years yet they act as if they dont know each other. When they moved to Seoul, i was really hoping that Sunnyeo can start her own store because she is such a good cook so after the storylines about jealousy and fake pregnancy and dying and divorce, we see Sunnyeo getting hired in a bank. And the magnificent Sunnyeo worked so hard that she had no time for any sexytime with Samdo, which infuriated him. It’s refreshing to see this side where we see Samdo is the one wooing his wife and we see how much he loves her despite how she looks or acts. Eventually she got employee of the month and the best part of the show, she got pregnant!! yay! i didn’t like how Yunshil and Sunnyeo were pregnant and gave birth at the same time but i guess it is a little funny. I like this couple because we see another side where both are older and they have different issues such as money and menopause and trying to get pregnant. Months later Sunnyeo gives her and she now owns her own shop and she finally wins the union presidency (something she has been wanting for so long). Samdo, on the other hand, becomes one of the great tailors and sees the tailor shop cooperative prosper and get recognized.

Taeyang and Hyewon

I honestly think they are too young to get married but they’re so cute and mature so I didn’t mind. All series long Hyowon was rich and help him out whenever she can while Taeyang was a simple guy who wanted to become a teacher. Despite being poor, he made up for it by being super nice guy who always treat Hyewon and her mom nicely. When Hyowon’s family became bankrupt and had to move out, we see the kind Taeyang taking the modelling job and using the money he earned to buy Hyowon and her family a house for them to live. Now who wouldn’t love this guy?? He is such a keeper! This is also another great case of a couple who may not be rich but have lots of love and support for each other. Hyowon’s mom is still hilarious – when she saw the house that she was moving into and couldn’t breathe and sticking her face in front of the fan while eating ice. lol. she eventually gets a job in Sunnyeo’s store and she just keeps eating the food. haha. Taeyang passes his teacher’s exam and gets assigned to a school. Taeyang and Hyowon get married the traditional way – which was interesting to watch. All his students go crazy over the ex-model teacher but he ignores them because he has only eyes for Hyowon. I was hoping Hyowon will continue to have a career outside of Meesa – i thought her art teaching suited her but i guess she needed to be back at Meesa since it’s her family’s company.

Hyosang and Yunjin

I disliked them so much that i wished them awful things — but when Hyosang went bankrupt and lost his job (his constant screeching was a bit exag), I felt bad for him. When Yunjin didn’t want to move in to the house and stayed with her friend.. it made us all ask.. so did she really marry Hyosang for money or did she really love him? When Hyosang told Yunjin that they were celebrating his dad’s death anniversary and if she doesn’t come then they will separate, i felt relieved when she came and okay.. maybe just maybe i will like this couple too. Working at Wolgyesu changed Hyosang – he learned about discipline, and actually liking sewing and working at the tailor shop and he became less arrogant. Yunjin became nicer and more sincere. Months later after all the hardwork, Hyosang was finally moved back to Meesa headquarters. I hope he learned his lesson well and will be a better manager in the future.

Hyojoo

She made the mean girl in the show – and it was mostly because she felt like the Min family took over her family and her life. when she successfully kicked them out, she realizes how much she misses the family and how lonely and quiet the whole house was. She still felt upset everytime she saw Dongjin and Yunshil together – especially when she found out Yunshil was pregnant. Dongjin is so mature. At the start he was really awful and cruel to her, but in the end Dongjin spoke to her nicely without demeaning her love for him and said to move on, she deserves someone better than him.  I was thinking maybe she will meet someone in the end so that she can get over Dongjin, but didn’t expect that her future was to go to Europe, study and travel around the world. But in a way it made sense – it gave her freedom to be who she wants to be and to get away from all of them and make a fresh start. I also liked how she became closer to the Min family – especially the stepmother. Even from the start, Hyowon’s mom was concerned for her and treated her like her own daughter but she was so hurt with what happened she failed to see that she does have a family who will willingly come to her when she needs it. And with Hyowon out of the country, Madame Ko, Hyosang and Yunjin get to live in the big house again.

Last but not the least, Master Lee and Madame Choi

They decided to leave the house and move to the province to live on their own – as Master Lee explained, they want to live together and be together before Master Lee goes blind. the last few episodes we no longer see Madame Choi -i have a feeling this is when her cancer came back 😦 Master Lee eventually lost his eyesight and agreed to move back home so that they can take care of him. it’s quite fitting that the last scene was of Master Lee and the gentlemen of Wolgyesu and imparting a nice message.

Master Lee: I like the sea breeze.

Taepyung: isn’t frustrating now that you can’t see the view of the ocean?

ML: i dont know. i thought i’d feel uncomfortable once i lose my eyesight. surprisingly, it feels like i can see a whole different view now.

Taeyang: What is it you see, Mr Lee?

ML: I can see my life. When i had good eyesight, I only saw what was in front of me. Now that I can’t see and forget what’s surrounding me, the images of my past seem to unfold in my head like a beautiful painting. So there’s no need for me to feel frustrated.

Dongjin: What was your life like, Dad?

ML: It was dazzlingly beautiful. Luxurious beyond measure for me. The trade I’d learned as a child was to see and make grand suits. I couldn’t love my job more. Now those times stretch before me like a roll of beautiful fabric. The verb we use to say we make clothes means “to form”. We use the same verb on building houses or cooking food. The verb goes for cloths, food and shelther. That means clothes aren’t a mere accessory. Making clothes means we make a life that goes with it. A Gentleman isn’t someone who wears expensive or grand clothes. It’s a man who lives a life that suits his outfit. That is a true gentleman.

end sea

Overall, it was a great family show – very long but worth the watch. I loved the cast, the storylines, there were not a lot of boring scenes/episodes and each character got a good ending.

Bride of the Water God: Episode 09 – 10

WaterGod09-00822.jpg

This week’s edition has been loaded with tons of surprises! For this week I will combine my thoughts on both episodes as I was a little busy with personal stuff.

This week revealed that the relationship between Habaek and So Ah reached greater heights Habaek kissed So Ah passionately. Whether is it an excuse that Habaek knows that he will be leaving soon or not we will get to see more romantic and sweet scenes on the upcoming weeks.

WaterGod09-00406.jpg

Geol Rin and CEO Hoo Ye know each other. It seems that Geol Rin has empathy on what happened to Hoo Ye (or can be seen as a father figure). But what I am curious is that he insinuated that Hoo Ye needs a servant more than Habaek. Is it because of all the hardships that Hoo Ye went through or is just another plot of the Minor Gods who wants to overthrow the Gods.

WaterGod10-00429

Speaking of Hoo Ye, it seems that he was controlling his dark powers for the longest time. In my opinion Hoo Ye is naturally a good guy, it was just unfortunate that he was cursed as a Half God who stuck on an endless cycle of reborn. With Bi-Ryeom’s actions so far, we might get to see what kind of power does he have and is it powerful enough to kill a God? This week also revealed that Hoo Ye likes So Ah (as he confessed to Habaek after he met up with her at a cafe) and he will do whatever it takes to win her heart.

WaterGod10-00371.jpg

Joo Dong has been found! Apparently he lost his memories and powers temporarily and wandered as a homeless person but eventually became a monk. Joo Dong can be seen as the God who is really on Habaek’s side knowing that both Moo Ra and Bi-Ryeom are scheming against him. Joo Dong clearly saw through Habaek as he was not happy that all the God stones were already gathered and ask Habaek if the reason was because of So Ah (should be a dead giveaway).

WaterGod10-00582.jpg

Habaek for the mean time learns how to earn money as he helped an old man pick up paper cartons to be sold to a recycling company wherein he was handed out his share of the sold cartons. The second one was taking his photos for a street seller in order to get a cute set of cups which he gave it to So Ah as a gift.

The question now is that how will the rivalry between Habaek and Hoo Ye go now that it was evident that they are now fighting for So Ah’s heart. When shall we see Hoo Ye’s dark powers? We will just have to wait until next week. Will Bi-Ryeom be the first victim? Who knows… Let’s all find out next week!
